West African leaders converge in Abuja
Over five leaders in the West African sub region have gathered in Abuja for the 46th session of meeting of Heads of State and Government. The leaders are to deliberate on ways of tackling prevailing issues like the Ebola Virus Disease and terrorism among others.
It is the last meeting before the 40th anniversary of the economic bloc. The host President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, said in his address, that ebola and terrorism are 'negatively impacting our economies.' He called for more contributions to the ECOWAS regional solidarity fund to help in the fight against this trend.
Similarly, the Chairman of ECOWAS and President of Ghana, John Mahama, noted that terrorism in one country 'reflects negatively on the whole of our sub-region, so we must work together and harder to keep West Africa safe for investment for the overall good of our people.
