A former First Lady of Ivory Coast, Simone Gbagbo, is currently standing trial for her alleged role in the post-election violence that claimed about 3,000 lives five years ago. She has been charged along with 82 supporters of her husband, Laurent Gbagbo, who is awaiting trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of crimes against humanity.
The former President refused to accept defeat in a run-off vote leading to a violent unrest in the country. He is the first former head of state to have appeared at the ICC in The Hague, and is now facing four charges, including murder, rape and persecution.
His wife has been held under house arrest for three years, and charged with "attempting to undermine the security of the state".
