Sony Pictures Entertainment has gone ahead to release The Interview, a fictional movie about a plot to assassinate North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un. The American movie company has been in the middle of a controversy between the United States and North Korea after the FBI alleged that a cyber attack on the company was carried out by Pyongyang. North Korea denied the allegation but praised the attack as a 'just act'.
North Korea also threatened to attack Sony Pictures if it went ahead to release the movie but the US company has now announced a limited cinema release of the James Franco and Seth Rogen movie online after backing from the White House. It can now be viewed via Video On Demand platforms
A statement by the company said: "Sony Pictures Entertainment is and always has been strongly committed to the First Amendment.
"Free expression should never be suppressed by threats and extortion."
