Nigeria ends military agreement with US, turn to Russia for assistance

The Nigerian Government has revealed its decision to cancel a United States military training for its Army following the US's refusal to sell military helicopters and weapons for use in the war against terror. The US turned down Nigeria's request for the helicopter over concerns about Nigeria's ability to use the aircraft without inflicting harm on innocent civilians during their operations.
According to reports, Nigeria will now turn to Russia for military assistance. This development justifies the saying in politics and international relations that there are no permanent friends but permanent interests. The two countries have recently held talks on ways to equip the Nigerian military to battle with insurgents.

The refusal by the United States to provide military hardware to Nigeria at a crucial time when terrorists are carrying out heinous and barbaric attacks on the country, leaves Nigeria with no choice but to look elsewhere for much needed assistance.
