Following the announcement of Professor Osinbajo as the running mate to the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the Peoples Democratic Party has wasted no time to criticise the selection process.
Speaking to journalists soon after the unveiling of Osinbajo, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, criticised the 'show of incompetence' by the APC after it took the opposition party several days to reach an agreement on the candidate to fill the VP slot.
The PDP scribe noted that the time wasted in picking a candidate clearly shows that Buhari has little say on key policy decisions of the APC. He also pointed out that the presidential flag bearer lacked capacity to deliver considering the circumstances.
According to Metuh, Buhari has a track record of incompetence as evident in is short spell as Head of State when his second in command, Idiagbon, was the person actually in charge. He added that there is a serious concern about the influence and dominance of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State, in the affairs of the APC noting that he has exercised so much influence in the nomination and selection of candidates thereby presenting the APC as a one-man party.
Elsewhere, some leaders of the PDP in the South West organised a forum in support of the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan. A chieftain of the party, Chief Bode George, said it was the turn of the South South to rule the country and it would the wrong to short change the region.
Also speaking at the event, the Guest Speaker, Professor Modupe Olatudosun, pointed out that when 'Gen. Buhari lost the election in 2011, he made a very inciting statement that he will make the country ungovernable for the President'.
He noted that this statement made by the General is consistent with the present security challenges in the country. The guest speaker said that despite the insurgency ravaging the country, President Jonathan has been able to make great achievements and therefore deserves to be re-elected in 2015.
