I'm not a religious fundamentalist - Buhari

Former Head of State, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, has decried the negative views promoted by people who consider him to be a religious bigot and fundamentalist. Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Buhari stated that he was concerned about this perception because it is injustice done against him.

The APC Presidential Aspirant noted that his ability to rise through the ranks of the Nigerian military (composed mainly of Christians) to become a General, has proven that he is not a bigot or fundamentalist.

He went on to criticise the government for its handling of insurgency in the country noting that the first thing the present administration should have done was to collaborate with neighbouring countries like Cameroon, Chad and Niger and get into 'a serious agreement to check the mobility of insurgents and arms' in the sub region.

Buhari also criticised the anti-corruption strategy employed by the government stating that the soldiers are not given enough weapons to engage terrorists who are well armed. He noted that the only sabotage to the efforts of the military is corruption.

When asked for his opinion on the rumoured Muslim/Muslim ticket to be presented by the All Progressives Congress, the former military leader said that decision is the party's to make. He however stated that it was a possibility and that it is left for Nigerians to make the right choice.
