Rochas Okorocha to contest Imo Guber after failed presidential bid

In the aftermath of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential primaries, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has now turned his attention to a second term in office as news has emerged that the former presidential aspirant picked the APC governorship ticket in absentia last night.
Okorocha had to settle for fourth position at the presidential primaries held in Lagos yesterday after polling just 624 votes. He was trailed by General Mohammadu Buhari who secured more than 3000 votes from delegates to defeat Rochas and other candidates including former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State, and the Editor of Newswacth Magazine; to emerge as the party's flagbearer for the 2015 presidential election where he will challenge incumbent President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

According to reports circulating the media, Okorocha’s son-in-law and Commissioner for Lands and Urban Planning in Imo State, Chief Uche Nwosu, who was earlier adopted as the governorship candidate for APC, has now withdrawan from the race paving way for his boss and father-in-law to seek re-election.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. John Alamba, has confirmed the decision noting that the party reserves the right to substitute any candidate, who backs out from the race. He stated that “a few days ago, we gathered here to elect Chief Nwosu as the APC governorship candidate, but I was in Lagos when I learnt that the candidate had resigned on personal grounds. We are gathered here today to ratify Governor Okorocha as the party’s governorship candidate”.
