Behold the new Miss World, South Africa's Rolene Strauss
South Africa's representative at this years's Miss World pageant, Rolene Strauss, has made her country proud after becoming the third South African to claim the prestigious crown. The event which took place in London had more than 120 countries were represented.
President Jacob Zuma has congratulated the 22-year-old for a wonderful performance noting that she "demonstrated the capability of South Africans to shine on the world stage". His statement further said "We are very proud that our very own has earned this prestigious title after months of hard work and dedication," Mr Zuma said in a statement.
#proudlySouthAfrican is the hashtag now trending on twitter with many South Africans taking to the social media to show excitement and solidarity with the Miss Strauss, a 22-year-old medical student.
The new Miss World said she wants to use the platform to raise awareness about the importance of education in South Africa.
