Tribunal upholds Fayose's election

The Ekiti State Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the election of Gov. Ayodele Fayose. Chairman of the panel, Justice Mohammed, dismissed the case filed by the All Progressives Congress noting that the opposition party failed to substantiate the allegations of electoral violence and arrest of officials.

The APC had also accused Fayose of presenting false educational qualifications and challenged his eligibility to contest the election following his indictment and impeachment by an administrative panel of enquiry during his first term in office. This was however dismissed as the Tribunal ruled that the petitioner failed to provide evidence to back up the claim; and it is only a court of competent jurisdiction or the Code of Conduct Tribunal that can adjudge someone guilty of an offence.

Shortly after this ruling, the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress confirmed that the will go on appeal noting that the court did not say the allegations raised were false.

Fayose made history by becoming the first Ekiti Governor to get a second term in office. He defeated the incumbent Governor, Kayode Fayemi and achieved his campaign promise to 'give APC a red card'.
