President Jonathan meets Pope Francis


President Goodluck Jonathan arrived the Vatican City yesterday and has since been received by His Holiness, Pope Francis. The President was accompanied by his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan and other Christian pilgrims drawn from Anambra, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory.

He disclosed to journalists that his meeting with the Pontiff was discuss ways of enhancing inter-faith dialogue in Nigeria and the entire world, also noting that the Pope had been very helpful and concerned about the violent attacks in Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary of Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Mr. John Kennedy-Opara, told journalists that President Jonathan used the opportunity to explain Nigeria’s stance on same sex relationships which was recently made illegal. Opara also said Pope Francis offered special prayers against the terrorist activities witnessed Nigeria.
