'Nigeria has come to stay' - Obasanjo

'If Nigeria has survived the first 100 years, it means Nigeria has come to stay'. These are the words of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who was one of the awardees at Nigeria's Centenary Awards Night/Dinner. Obasanjo and other past leaders were conferred with the prestigious honour of Promoters of Unity.

Two British Protectorates where amalgamated in 1914 by Lord Lugard to form Nigeria. The West African country has survived many years of coups, counter coups, a civil war, and some other internal crisis. Some of these events almost tore the largest black nation apart but the country has remained strong and united.

As all the Ethnic Nationalities making up Nigeria prepare for a National Conference where they will discuss they future of the country, it has been reiterated that the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable.
