The Northern Elders Forum has reacted to recent rumours of the resignation of the newly appointed Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Aliyu Gusau. Speaking to journalists today, the forum's vice chairman asked the federal government to provide an explanation on the matter.
He noted that if the news surrounding Gusau's rumoured exit and the alleged refusal of the service chiefs to honour an invitation by the minister are true, then the service chiefs must be called to order. The vice chair stated that in any democratic dispensation, the military is subject to civilian authorities, so it was therefore wrong for the service chiefs to disrespect the Honourable Minister.
