Presidency won’t probe Petroleum Minister –Okupe

Following the decision by the House of Representatives to launch an investigation into allegations that the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke wasted public funds worth N10bn to maintain a private jet, the Presidency has disclosed that it will not launch a separate probe of the embattled minister.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, who revealed this information to The Punch, said that the Federal Government will not look into matter since it has not been substantiated. He noted that the right thing would be to wait for the findings by the house committee.

“The Federal Government cannot set up a probe panel just on things that have not been substantiated as such. The information I have is that the House of Representatives is looking into the matter and they want to invite the honourable minister. Definitely, the right thing is to wait for the outcome of such an interaction before anybody can decide to do anything,” the President’s spokesman said.
