The Republic of Niger has extradited Saadi Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan dictator, to his home country. Saadi is alleged to have ordered the shooting of protesters in the early days of the Libya crisis that ended his father's reign. The former footballer fled Libya in September 2011 and has been under house arrest in Niger.
Libya has expressed appreciation for the gesture and confirmed that Saadi is now in custody at the Al-Hadba prison in Tripoli.
