The Northern Elders Forum has revealed that it will not accept the recommendations from the proposed National Conference slated for next week insisting that the gathering “lacks a constitutional basis or any form of legitimacy or authority to speak for the people of the North or other Nigerians.” This was their resolution at a meeting in Kano on Tuesday.
It also noted that “the critical issues of national development are fairly well known and can be incorporated in amendments of the constitution.”
The Northern elders called for a peaceful conduct of the 2015 elections in the North and the entire country, adding that law enforcement agencies must not be abused in the process in order for the rule of law to prevail.
