Emefiele confirmed as new CBN boss, promises stability and growth


The Senate today unanimously confirmed the appointment of Mr. Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Until his recent nomination and appointment, Emefiele was the CEO of Zenith Bank Plc. He replaces Mallam Sanusi Lamido was suspended last month by the President for acts of financial recklessness and misconduct.

Emefiele vowed to ensure economic stability and address the problem of unemployment raging the country.

“We will ensure that during this period, if approved by the Senate, that whatever monetary policy decision we take will be those that will lead to improvement in the level of employment,” he said, warning the country was facing an “employment emergency.”
