Assault on Nigerian in South Africa: FG demands justice
The Federal Government has demanded appropriate administrative and legal action from the South African government after a Nigerian was brutalized by Cape Town policemen last Friday.
Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Ambassador S.S. Yusuf, released a statement in reaction to the barbaric action of the police officers. He noted that the incident “further highlighted the lawlessness of the South Africa Police, who have become notorious for extra-judicial actions.”
Yusuf assured that the mission would ensure that justice is done.
“In addition, the High Commissioner, through the effort of the Nigerian Community Leader in Cape Town, was able to speak with the victim, Mr. Emekeneh, to sympathise with him, assuring him of the mission’s support and the necessary steps taken to protest to the host authorities to ensure that justice is done,” he said.
The Independent Police Investigation Department (IPID) also arrested and suspended the two officers who were caught on camera.
