The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of 11 out of the 12 ministerial nominees presented for screening.
They include: Musiliu Obanikoro, Lagos; Mohammed Wakil, Borno; Aminu Wali, Kano; Akon Eyakenyi, Akwa Ibom; Lawrencia Malam, Kaduna; Aliu Gusau, Zamfara; Boni Haruna, Adamawa; Khaliru Alhassan, Sokoto; Hadjia Jamilla Salik, Kano; Abduljelil Adesiyan, Osun; T.W Danagogo, Rivers; and Asabe Ahmed, Niger.
The screening of the 12th nominee, Salik from Kano, was deferred to another legislative day.
Before the confirmation, a point of order was raised by Sen. Olusola Adeyeye (Osun State, APC) in objection to the nomination of Adesiyan from Osun.
The APC senator noted that it was wrong for the Senate to confirm Adesiyan's appointment when all three senators from his state had objected to the nomination. Adeyeye said that their objection was not based on partisan politicking, but on the grounds of credibility crises.
He was however ruled out of order by Senate President, David Mark who stated that the Senate could not become a law court to pass judgment on anyone.
Mark called on the confirmed nominees to ensure that they add value to the government and work in harmony for the progress of the nation.
“You must bring value to the transformation agenda and don’t act as masters, but as servants called to serve in this difficult period of our country,’’ the Senate President said.
