President Goodluck Jonathan has nominated the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Godwin Emefiele, to take over as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria at the expiration of the tenure of suspended Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi in June 2014.
An Executive Director with First Bank Plc, Adelabu Adebayo has also been nominated as Deputy Governor of the apex bank.
The names of both nominees have been forwarded to the National Assembly for approval.
Emefiele, an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; has 26 years banking experience. If his appointment is confirmed, he will be expected to address issues of unemployment, corruption and low productivity raging the country.
