Rivers State CP, Joseph Mbu, transferred

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu, has been transferred after months of controversy surrounding his role in the Rivers State crisis.
A statement by the Police Service Commission confirmed that Mr. Mbu is now to take charge at the Federal Capital Territory Command while the Commissioner in charge of the Special Fraud Unit, Johnson Ogunshakin, will replace him at Rivers State.

The All Progressives Congress had called for the CP's removal, accusing him of taking sides in the crisis rocking the state. Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka also expressed a similar opinion recently by asking that Joseph Mbu should be redeployed to Maiduguri to fight Boko Haram insurgents.

Mr. Mbu is not the only one affected as 13 other Commissioners of Police including: Felix O. Uyanya, Benjamin Onwuka, Abdulmajid Ali and Ibrahim Maishanu were also approved for redeployment.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, is to appear before the Senate on Tuesday to explain the role of the police in the Rivers State crisis. Senate spokesman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, confirmed this to journalists on Wednesday.

“The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, will appear before the Senate next week Tuesday to explain the role of the police in the Rivers State crisis.”
