Corrupt police nabbed in Lagos, faces dismissal

A policeman, Corporal Aniyem Chiyem, who was caught on camera demanding bribe for traffic offences in Lagos, has been nabbed and is now facing trial.
Public Relations Officer of the Force , CSP Frank Mba, issued a statement on Monday in Abuja saying that “His arrest was sequel to a matching order issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Umar  Manko, to ensure prompt arrest and investigation of the matter.
“Following his arrest, the suspect who is now in police custody, is undergoing orderly room trials and if found guilty, will face appropriate disciplinary actions.”

The video uploaded to YouTube showed the cop, who was in possession of an AK-47 rifle, asking one of the passengers to “arrange dollars. Give us dollars.” The Nigerian-American passenger insisted that he only had naira currency on him, and when eventually another passenger offered N700, Chiyem rejected it.
“What is the value of N700? I need dollars. Let us go and change it. Bring better thing. That one is not money,  I don tell you finish o,” the corrupt police said.

The Inspector General of Police has meanwhile commended the passenger who recorded the incident encouraged more of “this noble and patriotic action which will certainly go a long way in checkmating crime in our society.”
