Egypt's government resigns!

In a move that has left many surprised, Egypt's interim government has resigned. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi in a televised statement. He disclosed that 'today the cabinet took a decision to offer its resignation to the president of the republic'

Beblawi who was appointed last year following the ousting of Mohammed Morsi, noted that 'for the past six to seven months, the government assumed its responsibilities and duties... the government did not spare any efforts to get Egypt out of a bad phase.'

No clear reason was given for the resignation. This could pave the way for army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to declare his candidacy for president.
