Jonathan drops Oduah, Orubebe, 2 others as Ministers



African Conviction can confirm that President Goodluck Jonathan has dropped the Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah in his latest cabinet shake off announced today. The embattled Aviation Minister has been the subject of debate following her approval for the purchase of two bullet-proof cars for N255m.



After investigations into the scandal, the House of Representatives and a presidential committee indicted Stella Oduah for compelling the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to purchase two armoured cars in violation of the public procurement laws of the country.

The former Aviation Minister is also alleged to have forged her academic qualifications submitted to the Senate for her screening, after she claimed to hold a honorary doctorate from a US University that does not exist

Other ministers affected include: Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade; Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe; and Minister of State for Finance, Yerima Ngama.

Explaining the reasons why the affected ministers were dropped, the Minister of Information and Supervising Minister of Defence, Mr Labaran Maku said that “the ministers had indicated their interest to pursue other goals in the country and so President Goodluck Jonathan asked them to go”.

The Information Minister also disclosed the names ministers to take over the affected ministries pending the appointment of new ministers. The Minister of State for Trade and Investments, Mr Samuel Ortom is to take charge of the Ministry of Aviation, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs will be controlled by Mr Darius Isiaku, while the Minister of State for the FCT, Miss Olajumoke Akinjide will supervise the Ministry of Police Affairs.
