Oscar-winning actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman found dead
Oscar-winning actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead in his Manhattan apartment. It is believed that he died as a result of 'an apparent drug overdose'
The award-winning actor and director who admitted to seeking treatment for heroin abuse in the past, was found on the floor of his bathroom by a visiting screenwriter around 11.45 am with a needle sticking out of his arm, suggesting a possible drug overdose.
His family has issued a statement saying "we are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone.
"This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers."
The 46-year old who received the best actor Oscar in 2006 for Capote, developed drug and alcohol problems after graduating from acting school in New York in 1989. He admitted to seeking treatment for heroin abuse in the past
