President Jonathan convenes council of state meeting, OBJ and Buhari absent

The National Council of State meeting was held today at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, almost 11 months since the last one was held on March 12, 2013. Recent reports in the media suggest that some state governors have been unhappy about the failure of the President to convene the meeting when there have been serious issues of concern.
The meeting was attended by some former Heads of State and Presidents including: Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, former President Sheu Shagari and Chief Ernest Shonekan. Senate President, David Mark, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwwal, and four former Chief Justices of the Federation were also in attendance.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari; and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State were absent from the meeting. Some other Governors including: Adams Oshiomole (Edo), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano) and Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), also did not take part in the meeting.

Among other issues, the council is believed to have discussed the proposed national conference as well as the 2015 elections.
