President Jonathan storms Imo as PDP receives returnees

Imo State today played host to many dignitaries of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party including President Goodluck Jonathan. The ceremony was organised to welcome the President to Imo State and officially receive many politicians who returned to the party.

Thousands of Imolites as well as people of the entire South East geo-political zone gathered at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, where the ceremony was held. It was attended by President Jonathan, Vice President Sambo, PDP National Chairman, Adamu Muazu, BOT Chairman, Tony Anenih, Senate President David Mark, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, Supervising Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, as well as many PDP sitting and ex-Governors.

Some political gladiators in Imo State were received into the party. Notable among them are: former Governor, Achike Udenwa and Senator Chris Anyanwu. Anyanwu's defection to PDP means that all the Senators in Imo State now belong to the ruling party. All the returnees vowed that Imo State will be returned to PDP come 2015.

Senator Achike Udenwa in his address told the President that 2011 was an accident. According to the former Governor, the people of Imo State were deceived with the idea of a rescue mission. He assured the President of support from Imo State and promised that the PDP will 're-rescue' the state come 2015. 'Imo State will vote overwhelmingly for you and sack the present government'.

President Jonathan acknowledged the support of the people of Imo State. He stated that the PDP is the only party in Nigeria that provides stability and believes in democracy and the rule of law. The President also noted that the door of that party is wide open for many others that are willing to decamp tho the ruling party.
