PVC Distribution: Don’t disenfranchise any voter, Jonathan charges INEC

President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, to ensure that all eligible voters get their Permanent Voters Card before next month’s election to enable them participate fully in the electoral process with discrimination. He made this call today during the swearing in of INEC’s National Commissioner representing Oyo State, at the state house in Abuja.

According to the President, people must have the liberty to decide who rules them at all levels of government. He stressed that a situation where any eligible voter will not be allowed to vote is unacceptable. Prof. Jega told state house correspondents that the commission will do everything possible to ensure that the PVCs are distributed to voters before the presidential election on the 14th of February.

President Jonathan stated that the interest expressed by many Nigerian in obtaining the PVC serves as a proof that people now have confidence in the electoral process unlike before when there was a high level of political apathy by the electorate. He praised INEC for making this possible through the conduct of credible elections.
