APC to boycott presidential debate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed that its presidential and vice presidential candidates will not take part in the debate organised by the Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG). A statement released by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, cited loyalty of media organisers of the event to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as reason for not participating in the debate.

According the opposition party, some key organisers of the debate have previously made biased publications to dent the image of the party and its presidential candidate. The APC also noted that the NEDG panel is dominated by the: Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON), Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, and African Independence Television (AIT), all allies of the government and the ruling party.

Meanwhile, the NEDG has said it is yet to receive a formal letter from the APC notifying the debate organisers of the party's decision. The group insisted that its activities over the years have proved that it is non-partisan.
