Presidential race: IBB endorses Buhari
Few weeks after declaring support for President Goodluck Jonathan, former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, has thrown his weight behind the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, saying the former Head of State is the right man to save the country from its present challenges.
Babangida expressed this opinion yesterday when he played host to Buhari whom he overthrew in a palace coup at his Minna, Niger State residence. He used the opportunity to dismiss rumours of a feud between him and the APC candidate.
“I wish to congratulate members of the party for the honour of nominating my colleague, General Muhammadu Buhari as your presidential candidate in 2015 election”.
“You media men have created this impression that we are fighting each other. Look at us here today; he knows what I mean and I know what he means. We both fought to keep Nigeria one when we were young majors then. We were well travelled.
“I want to commend APC for choosing our colleague as your flag bearer. All of us will support you (Buhari) in this cause to salvage this country,” Bagbangida said.
Buhari was accompanied to his visit by other APC stalwarts including the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the Deputy National Chairman, Senator Lawali Shuaibu; Director-General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Governor Rotimi Amaechi; Chief Audu Ogbeh, former Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Mr. Segun Oni and Ms Temi Harriman, Senator George Akume, Chief Niyi Adebayo, Senator Bukola Saraki, Alhaji Kawu Baraje and Chief Kemi Nelson and many others.
Later on at the APC campaign rally in the state, Buhari promised that if elected he would give serious attention to the problem of insecurity and improve agriculture. He noted however that this will only be possible “if the people go out to vote, peacefully stay behind and ensure that their votes count”.
