The Independent National Electoral Commission has assured the leadership of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that adequate measures are being put in place to ensure the safety of Corps Members who will be assisting in the conduct of the polls. Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Attihiru Jega, made this promise when the Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawunmi, paid a visit to the INEC headquarters on Wednesday.
It will be recalled that many members of the NYSC scheme lost their lives during the post-2015 election crisis. To avoid a repeat of the ugly scenario, Prof Jega stated that even though the Corps Members have chosen to participate in the exercise voluntarily, the commission will ensure that they are adequately protected and their welfare looked after.
