Buhari speaks on certificate controversy, says he graduated in 1961

As the controversy surrounding the eligibility of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to contest next month’s presidential election after growing demand for him to tender proof of his academic qualifications, the former Head of State has now broken his silence on the matter stating that he attended the Provincial Secondary School, now Government College, Katsina from where he graduated in 1961.

Speaking on the disclosure by the Nigerian Army that his certificate is not in their custody, Buhari noted that “I assumed all along that all my records were in the custody of the military secretary of the Nigerian Army, a position I have the privilege to utter by myself. But to my surprise, we are now told that although a record of the result is available, there is no copy of the certificate in my personal file”.

The APC candidate also said that he studied alongside former Chief of Staff, Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and former President of the Appeal Court, Justice Umar Abdulahi. He disclosed his examination number and said he has already asked the relevant institutions to make public his academic qualifications.

Buhari described the PDP as mischief makers trying to divert the attention of the public from serious issues like corruption and insecurity ravaging the country.
