Buhari should be punished for lying under oath – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has accused the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari of lying under oath about his academic credentials. Reacting to the confirmation by the Nigerian Army that it is not in possession of Buhari’s certificate contrary to the claims by APC candidate, the spokesperson of the PDP presidential campaign, Femi Fani Kayode, stated that it is a great offence “under the constitution to lie under oath or to tell a lie in an affidavit”.

He further said the PDP urges Buhari and his party to “do the right thing and tender an unreserved apology to the Nigerian people, throw in the towel and report to the nearest police station for interrogation and prosecution”. He noted that “anything less than that would be an insult to the collective intelligence and integrity of the Nigerian people. And we must remember that the international community is watching us.

The PDP spokesperson went on to call on the Nigerian Army to take punitive measures against Buhari by considering “the possibility of stripping him of his rights and privileges given the facts that he was never qualified to join the Nigerian Army as an officer in the first place because he never had the prerequisite qualification which was a school certificate.”
