INEC cautions politicians to abide by the rules and avoid inciting statements

Ahead of the general elections coming up next month, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned political aspirants to abide by the code of conduct guiding political campaigns and desist from making inciting statements that can undermine the electoral process and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the country.

The Chief Press Secretary of the commission, Kayode Idowu, said in an interaction with Channels TV that any violation of the rules will result in sanctions. He stressed that INEC has put in a lot of efforts to ensure that the forthcoming elections will be free, fair and credible also noting that it will be very difficult and almost impossible for anyone to disrupt the electoral process through manipulation of ballot sheets, snatching of ballot boxes or any other violent action because the commission has taken measures to prevent such criminal offences.

Mr. Idowu also stated that arrangements are being made for Internally Displaced Persons to participate actively and cast their votes during the polls.
