Kerry meets with Jonathan and Buhari in Lagos

United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, on Sunday held separate meetings with the two main presidential candidates including President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and General Mohammadu Buhari of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.



Kerry informed President Jonathan that the US President Barack Obama, is interested in the progress of Nigeria being the largest economy on the continent. According to him, the United States and the international community expects the coming elections to be free of all forms of violence. He also expressed concern over the attacks on innocent citizens by Boko Haram insurgents.

President Jonathan told the US Diplomat that Nigeria is committee to building a multi-national task force together with Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin Republic to fight Boko Haram insurgents under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission. He reiterated is commitment to ensure that the forthcoming elections are conducted in a manner that is free, fair and credible.
