PDP ask INEC to disqualify Buhari on academic grounds

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, from contesting the presidential election for failing to provide proof that he has acquired the minimum academic qualification.

Addressing journalists in Abuja today, the Director of Media and Publicity for the PDP presidential campaign, Mr. Femi Fani Kayode, said the electoral body 'erred in law by publishing the name of a candidate without receiving the personal particulars of the candidate within seven days of receiving his nomination form as indicated in section 31(3)

Citing section I21(D) of the constitution, which stipulates that candidates vying for the position of president must show proof of minimum academic qualification of school leaving certificate or its equivalent, the former Aviation Minister said the APC candidate is not qualified to contest the February 14 presidential election.
