The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed critics of its recent directives to members in the National Assembly to block all bills emanating from the President. National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed expressed this position saying that 'the decision won't change until the President intervenes to bring back law and order in Rivers State'.

The APC scribe noted that it was necessary for the party to ensure that the situation in Rivers State is given due attention by the Presidency before it escalates and spreads to other parts of the country. He reiterated the party's stance and said those opposing their directive to lawmakers are "either ignorant of the workings of democracy or those who have chosen to play to the gallery for pecuniary gains."

”We hereby reiterate the directive, which is a product of deep thinking and robust debate within our party’s NEC to save our democracy, and we commend our members in the National Assembly for their unequivocal support for our stand, and for understanding that filibustering or legislative non-cooperation are veritable tools of democracy,” the Interim National Publicity Secretary said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday.

Meanwhile the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh has criticized the APC for refusing to shift grounds on their directive. Metuh expressed regret over the action by the opposition party which he believes is a threat to Nigeria's democratic process.
