11 PDP Senators to defect to APC

According to reports in the Nigerian media, some 11 senators of the ruling People's Democratic Party are planning to defect to the opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC)

Although an official declaration is yet to be made it is believed that the 11 senators in question have sent a joint letter to the Senate President, David Mark, informing him of their intention. Part of the letter read thus: “we the undersigned senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wish to notify you that we have severally and jointly joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“This action and decision is as a result of the division and factionalisation in the Peoples Democratic Party that sponsored our election into the Senate.

“In view of the above, we write to inform you that following the division and factionlaisation in the PDP, we have formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC)".

The senators are: Bukola Saraki, Ibrahim Gobir, Magnus Abe, Adamu Abdullahi, Shaba Lafiagi, Wilson Ake, Aisha Al-Hassan, Jibrilla Mohammed Bindowo, Ali Ndume, Umar Dahiru and Danjuma Goje.

In the last couple of hours, there have also been rumours that some out of the 11 lawmakers have made a u-turn on the decision.
