Barcelona President, Sandro Rosell resigns

Barcelona's president, Sandro Rosell has resigned a day after a Madrid court agreed to entertain a lawsuit accusing him of allegedly hiding the cost to acquire Brazilian forward Neymar, espn has reported.

There have been allegations that the deal to sign Neymar from Santos was for as much as 95 million euros in contrast to claims by the club and Rosell that the deal cost "just" 57 million euros.

Meanwhile the board of directors have agreed that current vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu is to take charge at the Camp Nou until 2016.

"I have always said that the signing of Neymar is correct and has sparked jealousy," Rosell said on Thursday. "This board (of directors) is a team and this team leads a project that has been successful. My stage is over and I am presenting my resignation to the board. Bartomeu will be in charge of the presidency as the board has voted unanimously. I wish him the best and I ask you to support him."

"It has been an honour to serve the Barcelonistas. It's been a privilege to be the president of FC Barcelona."
Rosell was elected Barca president in the 2010 with a record turn-out of 57,088 voters to succeed Joan Laporta.
