Violence broke out on Monday at the re-run of the Peoples Democratic Party Congress to elect new delegates ahead of the party's primaries.
The police had to fire into the air and release tear gas in order to dismiss party thugs and restore law and order. Members of the party expressed discontent over the late arrival of election materials and the manner in which the party leadership conducted the congress.
Arrests were also made in the process.
