Supreme Court sacks Acting Governor of Taraba

The Supreme Court of Nigeria have sacked the Ag. Governor of Taraba State, Garba Umar following a law suit filed by a former Deputy Governor o the state challenging his impeachment. The apex court voided the impeachment of Sani Abubakar Danladi, former Deputy Governor under Gov. Suntai, and ordered his inauguration as Acting Governor of the State.

Danladi was impeached on the 4th of September, 2012 by a panel constituted by the Taraba State House of Assembly. Unsatisfied with the lack of fair hearing, he challenged the decision of the panel at the High Court and Court of Appeal but lost both cases. He then took the case before the highest court in the land and got a favourable judgement.

The apex court constituted by a panel of 7 Justices unanimously agreed that the lower court erred in judgement by ignoring the lack of fair hearing and observed that it raises suspicions of a premeditated plot to dismiss Danladi.
Justice Suleiman Galadinma (head of panel) described the impeachment panel as a Kangaroo panel.

A long walk to justice it was for Mr. Danladi!
