Diezani Madueke elected President of OPEC


Nigeria's Minister for Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke today made history after she was elected the first female President of the Oraganization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

At a General Meeting of the body held in Vienna, Austria on Thursday, the organization confirmed that Mrs. Alison-Madueke will take over from Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish, Libya's Vice Prime Minister for Corporation. She is to occupy the position for a year. 
Meanwhile, the Conference also elected Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar and Head of its delegation as Alternate President, a position previously occupied by Alison-Madueke.
