PDP clears Jonathan, Balewa to run.
The PDP today screened two candidates, President Goodluck Jonathan, and a son of Nigeria's former Prime Minister, Tafawa-Balewa to contest the party's primaries and seek for the highest office in the land.
Balewa later informed the screening committee headed by Ahmadu Ali of his decision to withdraw from the race, leaving President Jonathan as the only candidate. Balewa informed journalists that he remains committed to the course of the PDP.
The ruling party initially announced that it had adopted the President as its sole candidate and will welcome no other candidate interested in seeking nomination but this decision was overturned following protests from other interested candidates within the party.
