Ekiti: 7 lawmakers impeach Speaker

In another legislative drama on Thursday, seven out of twenty six members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly met and impeached the Speaker and his deputy despite not forming a quorum of two-third majority. The seven members belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also elected a new Speaker who resumed duties immediately.

One of the seven lawmakers cited that the Speaker and his deputy were sacked for abandoning their official responsibilities without official notice.

The other legislators belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) addressed a press conference in Lagos noting that they are not safe in Ekiti. They described the action of the PDP lawmakers as illegal stating that they will fight for their right till the very end.

Meanwhile the State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, surprisingly confirmed the change noting that he will work with the new Speaker elected by the seven lawmakers.
