Inspector General of Police refuses to recognise Tambuwal as Speaker
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba today appeared before a House of Representatives committee set up to investigate the recent invasion of the National Assembly by the police.
Mr. Abba told the committee that the unfortunate incident occurred because some violent lawmakers tried to force their way through following the arrival of Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, disregarding due process and showing little respect to the police officers who tried to screen lawmakers before allowing them to enter the premises.
The police boss however left the lawmakers angry and confused when he refused to recognise Mr. Aminu Tambuwal as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He insisted that he would not acknowledge Tambuwal as Speaker of the House since the matter is awaiting judicial interpretation.
