Poll postponement: Council of State advises INEC consult stakeholders before making any decision
After a meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which lasted for about seven hours, the Council of State has asked Nigeria's electoral umpire to consult all stakeholders involved in the elections before making a final decision whether or not to conduct the polls as scheduled in this month.
Speaking with State House correspondents after the meeting, the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, said INEC told the council that it was ready for the conduct of the election. He however said the security chiefs expressed concern over the possibility of conducting elections in some troubled parts of the North East.
The Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, informed journalists that the council being an advisory body asked INEC to consider all the inputs made during the meeting with a view to taking a decision it will make public soon.
