Nigeria 2015: Obasanjo endorses Buhari

Ahead of the forthcoming general elections, Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo,  appears to have thrown his weight behind the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhar. Despite being a key member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Ex-President has made many public utterances in the recent past, condemning the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Obasanjo had however refused to endorse either of the main presidential candidates for the 2015 election when they both visited him at his residence in Ota, Ogun State. But he finally broke his silence on the issue when he was interviewed by the Financial Times at the launch of his autobiography titled, ‘My Watch’, in Nairobi, Kenya.

The former President expressed confidence that Buhari will operate differently from the way he did when he led an authoritarian regime as Head of State.

“The circumstances he (General Buhari) would be working under if he wins the election is different from the ones he worked under before, where he was both the Executive and the Legislature, He knows that.

“He is smart enough, he is educated enough. he’s experienced enough. Why shouldn’t I support him?” Chief Obasanjo said.

He also condemned the recent postponement of the election and expressed worry about the management of Nigeria's resources.
