INEC extends deadline for PVC collection to March 8
Following the announcement of a shift in date for the 2015 general elections from the earlier scheduled February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11, Nigeria's electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has now extended the deadline for collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to enable all eligible voters take part in the forthcoming polls.
A statement issued by the commission's Secretary, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu, said following the postponement of the general elections, collection of PVCs will continue for four more weeks until March 8th, 2015.
“The Commission hopes that this extension will finally avail every registered person yet to collect his/her PVC the opportunity to do so in readiness for the general elections,” Ogakwu said.
INEC Boss, Professor Attahiru Jega, announced March 28 and April 11 as the new dates for the general election after holding lengthy meetings with all stakeholders as advised by the Council of State. The decision received condemnation from the main opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as governments of the United States and Britain.
