The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that elections will go on as planned, dismissing any idea of postponing the polls. This is coming just days after the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, asked the commission to consider shifting the polls to allow for adequate distribution of permanent voters cards.
Col. Dasuki had noted that about 30 million voters are yet to receive their PVCs and it would be wrong for INEC to conduct elections two months to the expiration of the tenure of the present administration when the issue has not been fully addressed.
However, the Chairman of the INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, stated today that the commission is taking necessary actions to address the situation. He noted that if it becomes necessary INEC will continue distribution of PVCs till February 13, eve of the presidential election.
