The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh, has confirmed the take over of Baga, Borno State by members of the Boko Haram sect. He disclosed that only Nigerian troops are at the border and the Chadian and Nigerien troops have withdrawn from the area.
Badeh said this after a security meeting with President Jonathan at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He however said that the countries have not pulled out of the multinational Joint Task Force contingent fighting the terrorist group in the north-east.
“They (Niger and Chad) have not pulled out of multinational force because we have held several meetings; they are still part of the multinational force.
“What has been happening is that they have not contributed troops to the point of Baga.
“Chad has people of their own side but I believe they have withdrawn. Niger had people with us, they too withdrew and left Nigeria only at the multinational force headquarters”.
Responding to questions on the non closure of the border, Badeh said it was not in his power to take such action. He also expressed optimism that the military will reclaim the town from insurgents.
Fighters of the terrorist group sacked Nigerian troops and other multi-national forces from the border town of Baga in Borno State and launched an attack on the military camp forcing many soldiers to run to Chad to seek refuge. Boko Haram currently have 13 local councils across the three North Eastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa under their control.

what is happening. Aren't our soldiers capable of defeating these insurgents
the problem is the illegal movement of arms. Can't the govt check this...it sounds pretty simple to me
