Fake Boko Haram negotiators apprehended by DSS

The Department of State Security Service has paraded seven fake Boko Haram negotiators taking undue advantage of the insurgency in the North East and dubiously enriching themselves.

Deputy Director, Public Relations of the DSS, Marilyn Ogar, noted that the suspects were part of several local and international groups out to 'make merchandise of the Boko Haram insurgency through concocted and fabricated stories' with an aim to discredit the efforts of security forces. She noted that the department will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that terrorism is stamped out.

Taliban kill 141 people in Pakistan

Pakistan witnessed one of the bloodiest terrorist attacks in its history on Tuesday as seven Taliban fighters attacked a school in the northwestern city of Peshawar leaving 141 people dead (including 132 school students) and about 114 injured.

Eyewitnesses say the militants went from one classroom to another, shooting indiscriminately.

FG launches YEAP and FAFIN to aid Youth Employment

The Federal Government today unveiled the Youth Employment in Agriculture Programme (YEAP) and the Fund for Agricultural Finance in Nigeria (FAFIN),at the banquet hall of the presidential villa to engage the youths of Nigeria by creating employment opportunities. President Jonathan noted that the new initiative will empower the youths to “become the CEOs of their own farms and agribusinesses, create jobs in the rural areas and reverse the trend of high rural to urban migration. They will help to change the mindset of the younger generation on agriculture”.

Mass Defection in House of Reps

The carpet crossing drama in the National Assembly doesn't seem to have entered just yet as more many more legislators in the House of Representatives today announced their defection to other political parties.

Five members of the House representing Ogun State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) decamped to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The cited the crisis in the Ogun State chapter of the APC as the reason for dumping the party.

Tambuwal vs FG: Court adjourns case indefinitely

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the case filed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives against the Inspector General of Police and the Federal Government indefinitely. This is coming after three members of Kebbe Tambuwal Federal Constituency in Sokoto State filed a motion for a stay of proceedings. The members had taken their case to the Court of Appeal to challenge a previous ruling on the suit by a lower court disallowing them to join the suit as co-defendants.

Okonjo-Iweala to present 2015 budget to NASS on Wednesday

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, will on Wednesday 17th December present the 2015 budget estimate to the National Assembly on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan.
